Race Day Preparation

This upcoming weekend many of our EnduWorld Team members will be racing.  They will be racing 5k distance all the way up to the Marathon distance.  Each race requires some preparation to be successful.  As for me, I will be racing the Napa Valley Marathon this coming Sunday.

For that race I spend a lot of time to prepare myself so that on race day everything goes smoothly.  My goal is to have all my race day nutrition out and ready the night before.  This would include any pre and post-race food, like Nature’s Bakery fig bar or drink, like an electrolyte replacement of choice.

I also layout my clothes for the race including warm-ups for before the race and at least a new shirt to change into after the race.  I attach my bib and timing chip before bed because it’s one less thing I need to do in the morning.  Once I finish my pre-race prep, I try to get into bed early, knowing that I will be up super early for the race!

As for race morning, I like to wake up at least two hours prior to race start time so that I can have my pre-race nutrition, enjoy some coffee and use the bathroom.  Knowing where the start line is, having directions and a plan for transportation is important in the preparation process.  Getting to the start line in plenty of time prior to the gun start is always important to me mentally and physically.  I like to feel stress-free before a race starts.  I can warm up, use the bathroom again and mentally get focused on the race.  I found there is no prefect way to prepare, just preparing makes race day smoother and more enjoyable.

Enjoy racing and go E-Team!
