2014 RENO 5000 Running Series

The 2014 DolanAutoGroup’s Reno 5000 Series is gearing up to begin.   What is the RENO 5000?  It is a series of three running events scheduled for April 13, June 29 and September 7, 2014.  The running events include the distances of half marathon, 10K, 5K and junior 1 mile.  The first event on April 13th is named the Downtown River Run and also includes an all-new marathon course.  The Downtown River Run Marathon course is sponsored by Reno Running & Fitness and American Family Insurance.

Reno Downtown River Run

The RENO 5000 Production Team is pleased to announce that the Downtown River Run Marathon is now USATF Certified as a Boston Marathon Qualifier!  April 13, 2014 will be the debut of the all-new Biggest Little City’s marathon, named the Downtown River Run Marathon.  Not only is the Downtown River Run Marathon a new, fresh course for Reno, but it is the only marathon produced in Reno and offered as a Boston Marathon qualifier!  Why is this so special?  All runners that participate in the Boston Marathon have to qualify at a previous event and complete it under certain times in order to qualify and those athletes can now do this right here in Reno.   Boston is the oldest marathon in America (April 19, 1897) and now, Reno, NV just got a little BIGGER on the map because of our association with this long standing traditional American event!

The Downtown River Run begins under the Reno Arch and follows the beautiful Truckee River out to Verdi and back.  The second event in the series will be held at Washoe County Hidden Valley Regional Park.  The Hidden Valley course overlooks the City of Reno, is a rolling course that exits the desert park and makes loops through the Hidden Valley neighborhood.  The final event in the series takes place at Washoe County Bowers Mansion Regional Park.  This course is a rolling hill, mountain feel course.  It has gorgeous views around every corner.  With three different events to participate in, athletes can experience a range of what Reno offers in terms of geography and the true diversity of the landscape.

Why a series of running races?  With three events for runners to participate in, they can choose the distance of their choice and run for the series championship in their designated age group.  The top three male and females of each 5 year age division are rewarded with special trophies at each event.  All runners who participate in all three events are entered into the finale event awards by a point system.  Runners love the fact that they have three chances to run in the distance of their choice and if they have a less than great performance at one event, they can still try to qualify for the podium at the next event.  The top five athletes in each age group are awarded at the series finale.   The series promotes healthy competition in the athletes of Reno.  The runners also enjoy beating their own personal records by being able to run the same distance courses.

Reno NVHow many people participate?  The series in 2013 had a total of 800+ runners that participated in all three events.  The projected number of athletes for the 2014 series is over 1200+ local runners.  The runners that participate are from every age from 4 years old to 80+ years old.  The RENO 5000 is family friendly and encourages walkers as well.

Who is benefited by the RENO 5000?  The Downtown River Run is benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.  A portion of every registration and sponsorship goes to the benefactors.  The RENO 5000 has sponsored different programs from Girls on the Run, to local families in need.  The benefactors are decided upon by the RENO 5000 Team and the sponsors.  The RENO 5000 is locally owned and operated by a large Reno native family.  The RENO 5000 loves to promote local businesses and prefers that local businesses sponsor the event.  For as low as $250 a company can be involved in a RENO 5000 event.
